How it All Began

​

The seeds of SMSIS TV were planted during one of the most uncertain times in education—the COVID-19 pandemic. Like many schools, we were suddenly faced with the challenge of delivering quality learning without the physical classroom. But rather than see this as a setback, we saw it as a spark.

With nothing more than a few devices, a green cloth, and a corner of the school turned into a makeshift studio, our teachers began producing our very own educational videos. These videos became lifelines, not only helping our students stay on track academically but also keeping them connected to the familiar faces and voices of their school community. It was in this moment that we realized the power of media as a learning tool.

From that humble beginning, SMSIS TV was born.

As we transitioned out of the pandemic, we carried forward the lessons we learned: that digital content could support, enrich, and even transform the way our students learn. This led to the inception of our Digital Learning Unit (DLU), a digital learning hub that integrates technology meaningfully across the curriculum, ensuring that learning is not just digital for the sake of being digital, but purposeful, engaging, and student-driven.

Today, SMSIS TV is more than just a platform, it’s a space where creativity, communication, and critical thinking come alive. With student-led podcasts, performances, interviews, and special features, we’ve built a media channel by students, for students. We’ve already gathered nearly 20 podcast episodes and student features, and we’re just getting started.

We’re still growing, still learning, and still evolving. With every video, we hope to inspire curiosity, amplify student voice, and create a meaningful digital footprint that reflects who we are as a school and a community.

We’ve come a long way since then! We’ve put together nearly 20 interviews and performances, faced challenges like limited space and tech know-how, and learned a ton along the way. And guess what? We’re still evolving and working on making things even better.
